Dirt the Skirt Softball Corp. ("DTS") is a Massachusetts nonprofit organization created to promote recreational opportunities for women 30 years of age and older.  DTS is open to women of all levels of experience, including women who previously played competitive fast-pitch softball to women who have never played a day of ball in their lives.  Many of our
members are women who have been out of the game for 15-30 years and want to get back out there and have some fun and get some exercise.  These "veteran" players bring unique skills to the game and aid tremendously in training the "rookies" in the techniques of the game.  The league was organized for those of us whose minds tell us we still can play but whose bodies dictate otherwise (and for those of us who don't want to play co-ed!).  Pass the ibuprofen, ladies!  Unlike different leagues that have age groups starting at 18, we understand the "breakdown" of the body that occurs when we hit the magic "30".  For that reason, we strictly enforce the age restrictions.

In our inaugural season last year, the league received tremendous attention and support.  We had seven teams with over one hundred women in total.  We plan to add up to three additional new teams in 2010.  The 2010 game season will run from mid-May through the end of August, with practices beginning in April.  All games will be played at the Pines Recreation field in Groveland, Massachusetts (right off of Route 113 in Groveland; over the bridge from Haverhill
near Building 19). The field is set on a picturesque view of the Merrimack River.

Life has gotten in the way for too many years.  It's time to play ball,
ladies!

Two 90-year-old women, Rose and Barb had been friends all of their lives.

When it was clear that Rose was dying, Barb visited her every day.

One day Barb said, 'Rose, we both loved playing women's softball all our lives, and we played all through High School. Please do me one favor: when you get to Heaven, somehow you must let me know if there's women's softball there.'

Rose looked up at Barb from her deathbed and said, 'Barb, you've been my best friend for many years. If it's at all possible, I'll do this favor for you.'

Shortly after that, Rose passed on.

A few nights later, Barb was awakened from a sound sleep by a blinding flash of white light and a voice calling out to her, 'Barb, Barb.'

'Who is it?', asked Barb, sitting up suddenly. 'Who is it?'

'Barb -- it's me, Rose.'

'You're not Rose. Rose just died.'

'I'm telling you, it's me, Rose,' insisted the voice.

'Rose! Where are you?'

'In Heaven,' replied Rose. 'I have some really good news and a little bad news.'

'Tell me the good news first,' said Barb.

'The good news,' Rose said, 'is that there's softball in Heaven. Better yet all of our old buddies who died before us are here, too. Better than that, we're all young again. Better still, it's always springtime, and it never rains or snows. And best of all, we can play softball all we want, and we never get tired.'

'That's fantastic,' said Barb. 'It's beyond my wildest dreams! So what's the bad news?'

'You're pitching Tuesday.'
